Kairagi Crackle Glaze Square Plate Set of Four

$49.95

Four square ceramic plates with a striking crackle glaze that shifts from warm amber brown to deep teal. The kind of plates that make a simple meal feel like an occasion.

Kairagi is one of the most distinctive glaze techniques in Japanese ceramics. The name refers to the crackled, reptilian texture produced when certain glazes cool and contract at a different rate to the clay beneath, leaving a network of fine lines across the surface that catches light differently from every angle. No two pieces crack in exactly the same pattern. That is not a flaw. That is the point.

These square plates carry the Kairagi technique across a gradient that runs from warm amber and burnt ochre at the centre to deep teal and near-black at the corners and edges. The effect is somewhere between natural stone and the surface of old lacquerware. Understated from across the room, extraordinary up close.

The square format is a deliberate departure from the expected. On a table set with round bowls and circular glassware, a square plate introduces geometry and intention. Use them for sharing plates, appetisers, sushi, or any occasion where the food deserves a surface worth noticing.

Sold as a set of four. Dishwasher and microwave safe. Designed and made in Japan. 17.3 x 17.3cm per plate.
