$39.95

Two ceramic bowls featuring a grinning lucky cat against a classic Japanese wave pattern, with matching chopsticks. Playful enough to make you smile, beautiful enough to mean it.

The seikaiha pattern is one of Japan’s oldest and most recognisable textile and ceramic motifs, an interlocking wave of overlapping scales that has represented good fortune and the endless flow of the sea for centuries. These bowls take that tradition and give it a personality.

Look into the wider bowl and a grinning, wide-eyed cat stares back at you, rendered in the clean indigo and white palette of classic Japanese blue and white ceramics. The second bowl wears its cat more modestly, a pair of ears and eyes peering over the rim from the outside. Together they are a matched set with two very different expressions, which is part of what makes them so charming.

This is one of those products that cat lovers will spot across a room and need immediately. But beyond the novelty, these are genuinely well made bowls with a glaze and finish that reflects real Japanese ceramic craft. The seikaiha border is crisp, the indigo is deep and even, and the cat illustration has the kind of confident line quality that only comes from a maker who has done this a long time.

Each set includes two bowls and two pairs of chopsticks, presented in a gift box. Dishwasher and microwave safe.

Designed and made in Japan. 14.9 x 6.9cm per bowl.
